Is rabbit difficult to prepare?
Rabbit can be prepared just like chicken. Young rabbit (fryers) are prepared either by broiling, frying, searing, barbeque or baking. Older rabbits tend to be tough and are wonderful in the crock pot  as rabbit stew.

What is rabbit meat like?
Rabbit taste a lot like chicken, although if over cooked can become tough. It is a fine grain white meat. It is a 'clean' meat with white fats, so you dont get that 'greasy' after taste that you get with chicken. Because it is so dense, you tend to get more full and it lasts longer than the feeling of fullness with other meats.

Is rabbit meat healthy?
Rabbit is one of the most healthy meats available. It contains lots of Omega 3 (healthy) fatty acids. It has all the amino acids making its protien a perfect protien since it is more easily utilized by the body. It is naturally on the "anti inflammatory index" rather than on the inflammatory index like chicken, poulty, goat, and beef.  It has been recommended for  people with immune dysregulation, arthritic or inflammatory issues and those suffering from cardiac disease.

Why isnt Juniper Meadow "organic" and how does that compare to "natural"?
Juniper Meadow Ranch believes that with the present definition of "organic" that one could actually end up with more hormones, antibiotic, virus, bacteria and chemicals  in the resulting product. Why? Well, until organic is defined by levels of organic then we must assume that dead and decaying animals are part of the organic process. We also must assume that sludge from the human waste plants are also fair game in fertilizing the fields which are eaten by our 'organic' herbivores. While walking though a field which was organically sludged, one inspector found remains of drug paraphernelia, rubber from condoms, tampons and other foreign materials. The tests on some fields after several years of sluding resulted in high mercury , antibiotic and chemicals from chemotherapy drugs. We dont want that in OUR ANIMALS that YOU eat. Therefore, we use natural as much as we can, but not necessarily "organic".

Does Juniper Meadow Ranch ever use sick or dying animals for food production?
Juniper Meadow Ranch believes that sick or dying animals are either nursed to health and then sent to new homes as pets, or they are humanely destroyed. We NEVER use sick or dying animals for ANY FOOD PRODUCTION.

Does Juniper Meadow Ranch ever use animals that are treated with antibiotic for food production?
No, when an animal is sick, it is isolated. If antibiotics are required, the animal is then removed from the production stock and given away as a pet.

Does Juniper Meadow Ranch feed "animal by products" to other animals for food production?
We do not believe that rabbits were meant to eat meat. Therefore, no meat products are given to our herds. We believe that meat products introduce bacterias not common to rabbits, and also introduce hormones or antibiotics. We want our product to be natural.

Does Juniper Meadow Ranch use hormones for faster development of products?
No, we believe that growth is from good animal husbandry and good genetics. Fast growth happens when there is a reduction of bacterial or viral illnesses, allowing all energy to result in improved growth. We focus on keeping our herd healthy and genetically sound.

Does Juniper Meadow Ranch used the AAFCO standard in its dog food products?
We adhere to the AAFCO minimum standards when processing food for dogs. However we also adhere to standards above AAFCO when certian things are considered. For example under AAFCO Federal Regulation 21CFR589.2000, brains and spines from infected animals can be used for dog food. We do not use infected animals period. Also under AAFCO and use of “animals that died of causes other than ‘slaughter’” can be used. We do not use any animal that dies of any cause other than slaughter and we ONLY slaughter healthy animals.

Does Juniper Meadow Ranch use an outside processor where they dont know how the meat is processed or handled or if cross contamination of meats is a potential?
Absolutely NOT. This is why we invest in top of the line equipment and work with ODA to make sure you have a healthy local meat source . We also use independent laboratories for random testing of our meat products so that we can assure ourselves we are providing the safest and healthiest product for our clients.
